We didn’t see our Constitution until 1789, at which point of the war had been over for six years. The Articles of Confederation were not adopted until 1781, and it is generous to call this document even a weak form of central government. The War for Independence began in 1775 and raged for 8 long years. It occurs to me that we are so careful to correct people that conflate a constitutional republic with a democracy… But the point was first and foremost Liberty at any cost.
